Last night on CraftNChat we learned how to make your own doodles into clip art.
I have included step-by-step instructions to help you on your clip art journey. The link to the blab replay is below!
Now, onto the step-by-step instructions to make your own clipart.
<— Like so.
Step 1) Draw or paint something on a white background.
Step 2) Scan it into your computer. You can use a regular scanner or a scanner app on your phone. Just make sure you upload the file to your computer.
Step 3) Open the image in an image editing program. I am using Photoshop CS4 for this demonstration.
Step 4) Crop down your image.
Step 5) make a new layer (make sure it is transparent) In the layer tool on the side it should appear to have grey and white checkers.
Look at the layer section over there—–>>
Step 6) While on the background layer, select your image using the lasso. You do not want to select the white space around it. Just your image. The easiest way to do this is to use the magnetic lasso.
See that tool with the magnet. That’s the one you want!
Step 7) After you have selected the image you want to paste it onto the new layer (the one that has the transparent background).
Step 8) Delete the background layer. You will see one or two layers depending how many copy/pastes you had to perform. Your image should have a checkered background like the image below.
Step 9) Save it as a png. Saving as a png will ensure the background stay transparent. Saving as a Jpeg will give you a white background.
Step 10) Play with your image in power point, word, or whatever your favorite desktop publishing program is. I made this computer background with mine.
